Strictly professionals will be desperate to stay on the BBC but face the axe every year, swipes former show star
A FORMER Strictly Come Dancing professional has insisted his former colleagues are “desperate” to stay on the show each year.
Brendan Cole, who competed on Strictly from the first series in 2004 until 2018, suggested that if a professional dancer leaves it’s not because they want to.
He said: “I don’t know too many pros who have left on their own accord because it’s a good job.
“At the end of the season, you know that you are getting exposure. You know that from exposure, you get work and for work, you get money.
“So I doubt very much – unless somebody’s got an incredible offer to go somewhere else, [and] I can’t see many of them getting that kind of opportunity because I don’t think that they’re popular enough as it stands – that they’d leave of their own accord.”
And Brendan, 47, teased that his former colleagues could be unsafe if bosses want to mix things up before the next series.
Speaking to Sky Bingo, he added: “Maybe the producers will have ideas to the contrary to mix it up a little bit. One never knows what is going on behind the scenes.”
After leaving Strictly in 2018 Brendan took part in The X Factor: Celebrity during which he teamed up with former Hollyoaks actor Jeremy Edwards but the duo failed to make it to the live shows.
Brendan’s comments come after fans were left convinced Gorka Marquez will not be back for the next series.
He competed with BBC Asian Network host Nikita Kanda and they became the second pairing to leave the competition this year.
Because of this many viewers think Gorka will quit the show.
